With a recently adopted Local Plan, the Borough of Broxbourne offers an exciting opportunity for a planning assistant to help deliver a wide variety of projects. The Local Plan sets out a range of development opportunities for the area, including major regeneration projects and greenfield developments.

You will work in the planning policy team alongside experienced planning policy and urban design professionals, assisting with the Waltham Cross Area Action Plan. You will also monitor and help deliver a range of planning and development projects. In the longer term, the role entails a mix of planning policy work and handling applications and appeals.

Candidates are likely to have recently obtained, or be working towards, a recognized planning qualification. Working under the supervision of the Planning Policy Manager, you will be expected to organise your workload efficiently and quickly take responsibility for key areas of planning work. As a good team player, you will have drive, enthusiasm and a positive attitude for dealing with applicants, stakeholders and members. You will need to prioritise your time to meet key deadlines and write clear and concise reports.

Familiarity with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is essential and experience working in a planning office is ideal. You must hold a full driving license. The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential in this post. For an informal discussion prior to making an application, please contact Martin Paine at martin.paine@broxbourne.gov.uk.

We are committed to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The benefits package includes generous leave entitlement, a full training and development programme, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and free membership to the Council’s local leisure centres, which includes free access to gyms, swimming pools, fitness classes, racket sport sessions, a health suite and a range of generous discounts across other leisure and culture services.

Broxbourne Council is an Equal Opportunities employer.
