Job Details
We are seeking to recruit a planning research officer to join our ambitious and proactive team.
There could not be a better time to join us. Wokingham Borough is subject to challenging development pressures that need to be carefully and proactively planned for and managed. Over 6,000 new homes have been delivered over the last five years alongside exciting economic opportunities.
We are progressing a considerable amount of planning policy work and will shortly consult on a new draft local plan which will include master planned strategic scale developments in conjunction with coordinated infrastructure investment.
The successful candidate will work alongside our planning policy team, playing an important role in the forthcoming stages of the local plan and undertake research to inform planning policy formation as well as the effectiveness of current policies such as the rate of development across the borough. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to proactively research housing, economic and social data and be involved in special projects, such as master planning and infrastructure planning.
It is expected that GIS will play a highly important function both now and following the forthcoming amendments to the planning system following the government’s proposed changes.
We are interested in hearing from conscientious, diligent and highly motivated candidates with an excellent eye for detail. Knowledge of Excel is essential whilst an understanding of GIS and the planning system is desirable.
The posts provide the opportunity to work in a beautiful and much sought after area, develop your career in a supportive working environment, and offers a competitive salary. Additional benefits for this post include 26-27 days annual leave depending on the level of appointment (rising to 31-32 after five years continuous local government service), membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, as well as invaluable training opportunities for continued professional development.
