Our client is a Local Authority based in the Dorset and they are seeking an experienced Planning Service Manager to join their Development Management Team for a contract role.
Our client is experiencing an unprecedented level of investment and growth, which has resulted in the Planning service dealing with a very high workload, including a backlog of applications. They aim to review their processes, and work on this is currently underway to implement improvements across the DM services and add additional capacity to ensure that the backlog is cleared and targets are met.
Our client needs an experienced professional who is used to operating at DM Manager level, and is experienced in dealing with a backlog of work and high-pressure situations. You will lead a "task force" approach for a 6-month period.
The role will report to the Head of Planning and will work alongside the current DM Manager, as well as closely liaising with the Interim Service Director for Planning. The permanent DM Manager will continue to manage the incoming and current workload, while the interim DM Manager will manage the processing of the backlog, as well as assist in implementing process improvements where required.
Applicants for this post must be qualified Town Planners with extensive experience of working within a local authority town planning setting. You will have strong leadership experience of development management and customer service. Critical to this role will be your ability to communicate effectively and to engage in negotiations that can often be sensitive and complex so you will need to be able to engage productively with third parties to develop good relationships that ensure successful development.
The post is initially offered as a 6 month contract and the rate offered will depend on your experience. This role is inside IR35.
