Our client is a local authority based in Cumbria and they require a Senior Principal Planning Officer to join them for a contract role within their Development Management team. This is a remote working role though you will need to carry out side visits as and when required, however this is not expected to be more then twice a month at most.
Reporting to the Area Manager you will to take a lead role within the team managing major and complex planning applications and dealing with contentious development control issues. These major planning applications will include large housing sites, site remediation and a new university.
As a more senior member of the team you will be expected to represent the Council by preparing and presenting expert and professional evidence at public inquiries, informal hearings and in court and you will regularly be required to provide professional advice to Council members, senior officers, applicants and the public on planning applications, development proposals and related matters. You will also assist in developing Planning Performance Agreements and providing pre-application advice on complex cases.
To carry out this role you will need to be a degree qualified town planner with recent experience of having worked within a local authority development management team. You will also have significant strategic major development experience, working on high profile applications both pre-app and live cases.
Initially this will be a 6 month contract but could potentially be extended. The rate offered will depend on your level of experience but is expected to be circa £45p/hr (this role is inside IR35).
