Description

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and focussed Senior Planner to join our Planning Policy Team in the role of Specialist – Local Plans.  The post holder will report to the Strategy, Policy and Communications Manager/ the Lead Specialist – Planning Policy & Implementation.

You will be joining Maldon District Council at an exciting time for any planning professional. In February 2021, we announced a significant investment in the Local Development Plan Review and we are now underway with an evidence and policy review to bring forward an Issues & Options consultation in Autumn 2021. This in in addition to our varied programme of policy and guidance work preparing a Planning Obligations Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) and Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), as well as continuing to support our parishes with their work on preparing Neighbourhood Plans. With all of these projects underway, it is an exciting time to be joining the team and take your next step in your career in town planning. 

About this role

Duties could include:

  • Preparing statutory and non-statutory supporting documents, assessments and registers
  • Progressing Local Plans and Neighbourhood Plans through all relevant informal and statutory procedures
  • Reviewing the existing policy evidence base and policy documents to maximise the effectiveness of the Council’s Local Development Plan and emerging policies
  • Coordinating consultation exercises through liaison with Parish Councils, community groups and strategic partners.
  • Contribute to Member briefings and preparing and presenting reports to committees, internal and external meetings
  • Working with Strategy Theme Leads to support strategic project and partnership delivery
  • Support, guide and advise multi-skilled service delivery teams (Customer Solutions and Case Management) on less complex enquiries and cases related to planning policy
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation, Members, partners and stakeholders
  • Support the undertaking of S106, policy and development monitoring
  • Enable resolution of cases, applications and inspections and providing resilience and flexibility within the Local Plans team.
