Looking for a new challenge – work and walk in the footsteps of Ebenezer Howard. This is an opportunity to develop your career and help develop the future of both Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield. Located in central Hertfordshire, Welwyn Hatfield includes the two new towns of Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City but also encompasses a significant rural area, all of which is designated as green belt.

There are pressures and opportunities for major development within the main towns and urban extensions to towns and villages proposed in the local plan, which is currently at examination stage. The role will be key in delivering our Local Plan while meeting our corporate vision to work together to keep Welwyn Hatfield a great place to live, work and study in a vibrant and growing economy.

Working alongside an experienced and dedicated team, you will be responsible for formulation and review of the Local Plan and other planning documents, including producing Supplementary Planning Documents and the Infrastructure Delivery Plan, and the preparation of planning briefs and masterplans. You will also project manage and assist in the implementation of development and other planning projects and work corporately across the organisation to assist in the delivery of corporate projects.

You should hold a degree or postgraduate qualification in town planning or a relevant discipline and have experience in the delivery of strategic sites and master planning, policy formulation or strategy development, and working with partners. You should be able to demonstrate good report-writing and problem-solving abilities and work to deadlines with minimum supervision.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential in this post.

If you are interested in working in a high-performing authority that at the same time values and delivers high-quality development while seeking to enhance our New Town and Garden City environments, we want to hear from you.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Sue Tiley at s.tiley@welhat.gov.uk.
