At Welwyn Hatfield we’re steeped in planning heritage but we’re not standing still.

Welwyn Garden City was established one hundred years ago and embodies the visionary principles of pioneering urban planner Ebenezer Howard whilst Hatfield is a post-war new town designated under the 1946 New Towns Act.

Now is a great time to join our planning team. With a new Head of Planning, a new local plan on the cusp of adoption and major regeneration already under way in our town centers we are looking forward to an exciting future.

We offer a range of benefits from agile working arrangements to generous annual leave entitlement and we are currently consulting our staff on future working arrangements to ensure we get the right balance of office and home working going forward.

Our offices are located within a beautiful, historic Garden City, brimming with culture and opportunity. This sought-after location is a popular place to live, raise a family and work. If you are interested in working in a high performance authority that at the same time values and delivers high quality development while seeking to enhance our New Town and Garden City environments, we want to hear from you.

About you

Reporting to the Head of Planning you will manage and lead our development management service.

This is a key management position within the department and in addition to essential management skills we are looking for someone who can lead and inspire staff in a pressured environment. We need a person with excellent interpersonal, communication and IT skills, as well as the ability to manage a substantial budget and engage in a variety of departmental and corporate initiatives.

You will join a forward-thinking council that puts their customers first. We know that in order to provide the best for our residents and visitors, we need to do the same for our people. We have set out to make our workplaces vibrant and happy places to be, places where our people feel safe, content and valued.

Closing date is 18th August 2021.

Assessments will be held on 23rd August 2021.

Interviews will be held on 26th August 2021.
