An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Growth, Highways and Infrastructure Directorate within Suffolk County Council (SCC), as an Assistant Director Planning, Housing and Growth, working from Endeavour House, Ipswich, although a mix of hybrid working is acceptable.
The next year is about bringing to life the SCC’s housing approach and we will be procuring a private sector joint venture partner to help accelerate the delivery of housing and other specialist accommodation on SCC owned landholdings.
Short and long-term economic recovery is a key priority for the region and a significant part of this role is working collaboratively across the organisation, and with external partners to deliver the county council’s sustainable and inclusive growth ambitions, including supporting business cases for infrastructure requirements to enable wider growth ambitions.
The planning function will play a critical role in the county’s recovery and a critical part of this role will be to elevate the planning function within the council and ensure resources are available to support the strategic leadership for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) and the county council’s coordinated response to them.
You will be a leader who is flexible, agile and creative, with an ability to build meaningful relationships and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes. You will need to be calm and comfortable with both fast-moving operational areas as well as looking forward and bringing together wider strategic direction. Experience of leading change and quality improvement approaches will be important.
As a new function, you will have the opportunity to shape the directorate’s approach going forward - building on our strengths and assets. The role offers the opportunity to be a member of the Directorate Leadership Team across a large and diverse portfolio, making and shaping key decisions.
