East Riding of Yorkshire Council is one of the largest and busiest planning departments in the country and deals with more than 5,000 planning applications and enquiries per year.  We stretch from a boundary with the City of York across the Yorkshire Wolds (which are currently being considered for AONB status), to the chalk sea cliffs at Flamborough Head and south to the adjoining City of Hull.

We can offer a wide variety of experience in terms of application types and locations and excellent training opportunities with a planning authority that is nationally recognised and respected.

Development Services Assistants work alongside professional colleagues dealing with a range of household planning applications, general planning enquiries and provide technical support and a contact point for a wide range of customer groups.  The work is interesting and varied in a busy office and the posts may be of interest to people who are looking to take a first step towards a career in the Planning and Development Management Service.

Ideally, you will have some experience of Development Management or related disciplines and a good basic education with at least GCSE level passes in English and Mathematics or equivalent.  Relevant technical or administrative qualifications at a higher level would be an advantage.

We seek good communicators who are willing to work as part of a team and are able to work under pressure to tight deadlines.  You should also be well organised, self-motivated and willing to be flexible in your work practices.
An ability to read and understand maps and diagrams together with good IT/keyboard skills will be required. (Experience of Uniform Plans Processing System would be advantageous).

We offer payment of recognised professional planning fees, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, discounted leisure centre membership, a staff discount scheme and potential for flexible working arrangements.  We are located in a beautiful part of the country working for a council which is recognised nationally as one of the best in the country.  The posts are based in the market town of Beverley - a highly desirable place to live and work for 37 hours each per week.

We are currently reviewing working arrangements and expect to offer a blend of office and home based working.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is pursuing equality of opportunity in employment.
