We recognise the benefits of flexible working and will be happy to consider your work-life balance needs at interview.

In return for your commitment, you’ll receive an excellent benefits package which includes: generous annual leave; flexi-time; and access to a Local Government Pension Scheme, salary sacrifice cycle scheme, employee assistance programme and personal healthcare scheme.  In addition, you’ll also be encouraged to take advantage of our outstanding learning and development opportunities.

About the role

In this interesting and varied role, you’ll process the full range of planning applications including major planning applications and applications for listed building consent.  You’ll also undertake site inspections, negotiations with applicants & agents and provide written reasoned justifications and recommendations for consideration by the Development Management Committee.  You’ll also investigate breaches or alleged breaches of planning control and initiate enforcement procedures as appropriate.

You’ll also negotiate and organise legal agreements and monitor the progress of planning applications, including preparing and presenting the Council’s case in connection with appeals.  As a Senior Planning Officer, you’ll also play a vital part supporting and mentoring other Officers within the team to assist the service to achieve the priorities and objectives of the Council.

About you

Along with a degree in Planning (or equivalent qualification), you’ll be a corporate member of the RTPI and have significant post-qualification experience in development management.
