Overview

We are looking for someone to champion our neighbourhood planning work with town and parish councils. If you have significant experience of working on neighbourhood planning issues and wider planning policy experience, can demonstrate a track record of working with communities and stakeholders, and show strong organisational skills, this could be the role for you.

By joining us as the Neighbourhood Planning Coordinator at Buckinghamshire Council, not only will you be offered a competitive benefits package, you'll also be part of a new team committed to shaping the future of Buckinghamshire for generations to come.

About us

Planning Policy sits within Policy and Compliance, as part of our Planning, Growth and Sustainability directorate.

Our Planning, Growth and Sustainability directorate work with partners to help shape the future of Buckinghamshire. We deliver services on planning, economic growth, regeneration, strategic infrastructure, transport and property.

A key opportunity to shape the future is the new Buckinghamshire Local Plan that we are at the early stages of preparing, working across our different services and with our partners to develop an ambitious plan for Buckinghamshire. We are also busy preparing supplementary planning documents to secure quality development and the right infrastructure on key sites allocated and across our area. We are active in supporting many town and parish councils as they prepare neighbourhood plans, as well as ensuring we have high quality development monitoring information in place to underpin all we do.

Our service review is bringing together a new, flexible, planning policy team to take the lead on these key areas of work. This will shortly include overseeing the running of the Community Infrastructure Levy and Section 106 systems.

About the role

As an experienced planning professional with a passion for working with communities on neighbourhood plans, you will lead the Council's work on neighbourhood planning, coordinating the support and advice provided to town and parish councils and neighbourhood forums. This will involve working with other team members and across other services to provide to provide a high-quality service to ensure neighbourhood planning is integrated with our wider planning policy work. Working across the Buckinghamshire area, you will support the preparation of NDPs across a wide range of contexts, from busy urban areas to quiet country parishes.

As well as contributing to other planning policy projects, you will also play your part in implementing aspects of our service review which is creating a streamlined and effective planning policy service for the future.

We want to play to your strengths but also provide the opportunity for you to develop and broaden your skills and experience, and we will provide the right support to help you do that.

About you

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a high level of personal expertise and experience in neighbourhood planning and general planning policy You will have strong organisational and project management skills, be able to work independently and shape the approach and programme for preparing neighbourhood plans, as well as be able to prioritise work and adjust those priorities when needed.

You will have a planning degree and full membership of RTPI (or be eligible for membership).

Other information

Our response as an employer to Covid-19 has shaped the way we want to work in the future. Microsoft Teams, Skype, and vlogs from our Senior Leadership Team have all played their part in allowing us to become even more flexible in how, when, and where our teams work.

There will be times where you'll need to be in the office - whether that's for meeting with the team or collaborating with peers - but we actively encourage our colleagues to adopt a flexible working approach and take control of their work-life balance.

If that's not enough reason to join us, you'll be entitled to a range of benefits from Buckinghamshire Council including a very competitive employer pension contribution; a minimum of 25 days' annual leave allowance per year; a flex-time scheme; and discounts in local shops, restaurants, and gyms.

We also aim to provide a proactive planning service that is responsive, whilst making the best use of the Council's land and property portfolio. It's a great time to join one of our teams.
