Overview

If you have a good knowledge of planning with experience of working in a planning environment and can demonstrate a good range of interpersonal and analytical skills, this could be the role for you.

By joining us as a Planning Policy Officer at Buckinghamshire Council, not only will you be offered a competitive benefits package, you'll also be part of a new team committed to shaping the future of Buckinghamshire for generations to come, with great opportunities for personal career development.

About us

Planning Policy sits within Policy and Compliance, as part of our Planning, Growth and Sustainability directorate.

Our Planning, Growth and Sustainability directorate work with partners to help shape the future of Buckinghamshire. We deliver services on planning, economic growth, regeneration, strategic infrastructure, transport and property.

A key opportunity to shape the future is the new Buckinghamshire Local Plan that we are at the early stages of preparing, working across our different services and with our partners to develop an ambitious plan for Buckinghamshire. We are also busy preparing supplementary planning documents to secure quality development and the right infrastructure on key sites allocated and across our area. We are active in supporting many town and parish councils as they prepare neighbourhood plans, as well as ensuring we have high quality development monitoring information in place to underpin all we do.

Our service review is bringing together a new, flexible, planning policy team to take the lead on these key areas of work. This will shortly include overseeing the running of the Community Infrastructure Levy and Section 106 systems.

About the role

As our Planning Policy Officer, you will be involved in preparing the Buckinghamshire Local Plan as well as a range of other planning policy work. You will also contribute to implementing aspects of our service review which is creating a streamlined and effective planning policy service for the future.

We want to play to your strengths but also provide the opportunity for you to develop and broaden your skills and experience, and we will provide the right support to help you do that. As part of a larger team you will benefit from working alongside colleagues with a wide range of experience across different topics.

About you

You will have excellent interpersonal, written and analytical skills with some experience of working in a planning environment, ideally in planning policy. You will have a flexible approach to work, have good organisational skills and contribute positively in a team environment.

You will have a degree in Planning and ideally full membership of RTPI (or be eligible for membership).

Other information

Our response as an employer to Covid-19 has shaped the way we want to work in the future. Microsoft Teams, Skype, and vlogs from our Senior Leadership Team have all played their part in allowing us to become even more flexible in how, when, and where our teams work.

There will be times where you'll need to be in the office - whether that's for meeting with the team or collaborating with peers - but we actively encourage our colleagues to adopt a flexible working approach and take control of their work-life balance.

If that's not enough reason to join us, you'll be entitled to a range of benefits from Buckinghamshire Council including a very competitive employer pension contribution; a minimum of 25 days annual leave allowance per year; a flex-time scheme; and discounts in local shops, restaurants, and gyms.

About the Business Unit

Our Planning, Growth and Sustainability directorate work with partners to help shape the future of Buckinghamshire. We deliver services on planning, economic growth, regeneration, strategic infrastructure, transport and property.

Our key priorities include developing the economic narrative for Bucks, creating more jobs and delivering the right infrastructure to help businesses and residents thrive. We also aim to provide a proactive planning service that is responsive, whilst making the best use of the Council's land and property portfolio. This will in turn support community services and create housing, jobs, regeneration and income to support public services.

It's a great time to join one of our teams. As part of the Planning, Growth and Sustainability function you will not only get to help shape the economic future of Buckinghamshire; you'll also be involved in delivering high-profile development projects and work on some of the biggest infrastructure projects in the UK. You will support us to deliver the results that our local residents and businesses deserve.
