Your New Role

Reporting to the Executive Head of Planning and Economy the post involves being responsible for managing the Development Management team and the Planning Enforcement team, to ensure the delivery of a high quality and efficient service in accordance with legislation and best practice.

With the support of the Executive Team, the role involves managing a team of technical staff providing expert planning advice and ensuring the provision of an effective, consistent and high quality customer focused service. This will include a range of development management duties, including the processing of a wide range of planning applications, appeals and enforcement proceedings. As the Team Manager, you will be tasked with leading an open and customer-focused service whilst ensuring the council continues to support the need for the borough and community to grow, balanced against the need to conserve the highly valued ecological environment within and adjacent to the borough.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

The role requires a Chartered Planner who has considerable planning knowledge and experience and who should have excellent interactive, persuasive and negotiation skills with a high level of personal expertise and experience in Development Management and Planning Enforcement.

You will be expected to assist in the delivery of a culture that supports the development of staff, through performance management training and coaching. Having a high sense of political awareness, being commercially focused and being committed to continuous improvement of the service are essential attributes for the successful candidate.
