Overview

If you have substantial experience within Planning and proven leadership ability with evidence of developing, managing and inspiring staff, this could be the role for you.

By joining us as a Planning Enforcement Team Leader at Buckinghamshire Council, not only will you be offered a competitive benefits package, you'll also be part of a new team committed to shaping the future of Buckinghamshire for generations to come.

About us

Planning Enforcement sits within Policy and Compliance, as part of our Planning, Growth and Sustainability directorate.

Our Planning, Growth and Sustainability directorate work with partners to help shape the future of Buckinghamshire. We deliver services on planning, economic growth, regeneration, strategic infrastructure, transport and property. Our key priorities include developing the economic narrative for Bucks, creating more jobs and delivering the right infrastructure to help businesses and residents thrive.

Our recent transformation to a unitary council is already creating diverse and multi-disciplined opportunities across the directorate, and we are excited to see what is to come.

About the role

You will be responsible for managing a team of technical staff within Planning Enforcement providing expert planning advice and ensuring the provision of an effective, consistent and high-quality service that is responsive to customer demands.

Career development is something we take seriously at Bucks; we love nothing more than seeing our colleagues grow with us, with many members of the team progressing quickly as they gain more experience and responsibilities within their specialist areas. We are committed to building an exceptional Planning Enforcement Team, utilising our colleagues' talent, and making the most of what they have to offer.

With a strong and supportive senior management team behind you, you'll play a critical role in helping us achieve our Planning and Environment Business plan and drive forward our vision as a new unitary authority.

Please see Job summary for more information.

About you

Naturally, you'll have excellent interpersonal, persuasion, and negotiation skills with a high level of personal expertise and experience in Planning Enforcement. You have proven ability to create a culture that supports the development of staff, through performance management training and coaching. You will be commercially focused, positively promoting the service, and committed to continuous improvement in all aspects of Planning.

You will have degree in a relevant subject (or relevant work experience), full membership of RTPI.

Other information

Our response as an employer to Covid-19 has shaped the way we want to work in the future. Microsoft Teams, Skype, and vlogs from our Senior Leadership Team have all played their part in allowing us to become even more flexible in how, when, and where our teams work.

There will be times where you'll need to be in the office - whether that's for meeting clients or collaborating with peers - but we actively encourage our colleagues to adopt a flexible working approach and take control of their work-life balance.

If that's not enough reason to join us, you'll be entitled to a range of benefits from Buckinghamshire Council including a very competitive employer pension contribution; a minimum of 25 days annual leave allowance per year; a flex-time scheme; and discounts in local shops, restaurants, and gyms.
