About us
At Essex County Council we’re already making plans to ensure our long-term economic recovery. With unemployment at a 30-year high, we face significant challenges, but we’re determined to achieve a strong recovery where economic growth benefits every community in Essex. We’re taking this opportunity to create a greener, more productive and fairer economy that is stronger and more resilient than ever before. Working with partners, we are developing an ambitious programme of work to support business recovery and growth, skills development, inward investment and priority economic growth sectors – and to deliver the revitalisation and regeneration of key places.
We want to help secure significant investment and regeneration in localities where improvements are most needed, and where there is the most potential to deliver lasting change for the benefit of the people of Essex. That means identifying the specific challenges faced by areas of deprivation and low employment and putting in place interventions to help overcome them.
About the role
Essex County Council’s Localities team is currently working on several projects including strategic regeneration in Clacton, Colchester town deal investment, major investment and regeneration in Harlow, and the delivery of specific projects such as the Tendring bikes and cycle infrastructure project.
We are looking for a Regeneration Lead (Localities) to help drive these exciting opportunities, playing a lead role for ECC in developing place-based strategies and projects, and pursuing major funding opportunities such as the Levelling Up Fund. Within this role, you will develop holistic approaches that will deliver lasting change, building relationships with internal services and districts, and fostering partnership working between different organisations. The role will demand strategic, visionary thinking, but also rigorous evidence gathering and a focus on targeted, measurable outcomes.
With experience of translating a vision or policy into practical objectives, you will be a credible, authoritative leader, adept at developing coherent programmes of work and with the ability to draw together all of the Council’s activities in key localities. You will build great working relationships with local partners in those places and develop a deep understanding of how different functions and services can best work together, to maximise our impact and achieve better outcomes for local people
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
We’re looking for people who combine creativity with the strategic, practical and analytical skills to make real change happen in our communities. You could have gained this experience in a previous regeneration role, or wider roles such as research and analysis, consulting or programme management. We’ll expect evidence of project management abilities and the ability to collaborate with others to achieve clear outcomes. You’ll also need well-developed interpersonal skills to work with others from many different backgrounds and levels of seniority.
Benefits
In return, we offer an excellent benefits package to all our employees. It is important to us that you have a healthy work/life balance, which is why we are proud to offer flexible working including working at home. The package also includes a clear career path which will encourage gifted, committed individuals to grow with the opportunity for progression and promotion, a local government pension scheme, minimum annul leave of 26 days per year, discounted shopping and much more. Find out more about our benefits on our careerspage.
