We are looking for forward-thinking individuals to join the Planning Inspectorate, on a temporary contract for 18 to 23 months, to deal with some of our most complex and contentious projects, which includes working on large offshore wind farm applications, rail freight interchange examinations and compulsory acquisition proposals as part of nationally significant infrastructure projects (NSIP) as well as infrastructure projects in related casework area.   

The amount of casework for NSIP in the past 10 years has grown significantly, and these posts will provide you with a unique opportunity to join a well-established, passionate team who are committed to shaping the future of National Infrastructure and related casework areas. You will be working with and supporting casework teams with extensive specialist knowledge and expertise to build upon and enhance a wider range of services that the Planning Inspectorate provide. You will be working towards exploring and delivering process improvements. 

You will be part of an Operational Manager team who, depending on the role, will be managing teams of caseworkers helping to build and develop a high-performance culture, with our customers being at the very heart of our work. If not directly line managing, you will be active within a matrix management structure to direct and support caseworkers delivering project-related outcomes.  You will be inputting into system innovation and leading our teams ensuring new ways of working are embraced and our common aims, goals and vision worked towards. You will be an integral part of our infrastructure teams helping to interpret legislation particularly The Planning Act 2008, confidently working within the operational delivery service and using insights from the NSIP team to quickly understand the challenges the team face and the risks involved ensuring quality decisions are being made.   

You’ll also be working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, building effective working relationships helping to meet our goals and priorities. You will role model The Planning Inspectorate’s core values and help to support, coach and mentor staff enabling them to fulfil their potential.
