We are seeking an experienced Town Planner or planning focused Surveyor to join our established planning team, based at our Hertfordshire office.
Sworders is an independent Rural Property Consultancy with over 230 years of history, offering integrated advice to the rural, residential and commercial sectors. We have offices in Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Warwickshire and Somerset.
Our clients include private land and property owners and occupiers, together with commercial institutions and charities. We have a strong reputation for delivering added value through interdisciplinary working across the planning, surveying and architectural disciplines.
We are looking for excellent individuals with the ability to support the continued expansion of our multi-disciplinary team as a result of a sustained and rapidly growing project workload which has been predominantly generated by word-of-mouth recommendations.
The successful candidate will work predominantly on development management type instructions, covering the following areas and more:
- Planning appraisals
- Pre-application engagement
- Appointing and managing consultant teams
- Preparing and submitting planning applications for a wide range of development from large residential and commercial schemes to barn conversions
- Advising on and submitting appeals (all types)
- Prior approval applications
- There is also the opportunity (but not the requirement) to become involved in strategic planning and local plan site promotion if this of interest to the successful candidate (no experience in these areas required)
Candidates interested in being based at other Sworders offices can also be considered but will be expected to service a predominantly Hertfordshire and Essex client base.
We are looking for an experienced Town Planner or planning focused Surveyor with strong development management experience from either the private or public sector. We would require a minimum of 4 years’ experience for an exceptional candidate but would prefer 6 or more years’ experience. Job title on entry and complexity of project workload will reflect the experience of the successful candidate. RTPI accreditation is not a pre-requisite for a candidate with the right experience although we would support you to secure this accreditation if eligible. We would expect any candidates from a Surveying background to be RICS qualified and to have extensive planning experience.
Our planning team comprises a mixture of RTPI and RICS Planners working across development management and local plans projects. Our current Planners come from both private and public sector backgrounds and range from graduate to Director level. We work closely with our RICS surveying and architecture colleagues to deliver projects for a diverse client base. The role offers the opportunity to work closely with clients to understand and realise their objectives as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will depend on the experience of the candidate but is unlikely to be limiting for the right person. We also pay professional subscriptions and fund approved CPD.
Sworders offers flexitime working hours and a generous holiday allowance. Both full and part time candidates are encouraged to apply.
