Senior/Principal Planning Officer (DM) – 3 Month Contract – Home counties (Homeworking 95%)


My client (a local authority) is looking for a well experienced Senior/Principal planning officer to come in and help the team with a backlog of applications in a wide varied, mixed caseload.

Day to day responsibilities:

  • Effectively processing a wide range of applications from residential householder and commercial developments, as well as advertisement consents and listed building consents to complex minors and the odd support to Major applications.
  • Carry out site inspections and negotiations with applicants and or their agents and specialist staff (Site inspections flexible - max 1 per week).
  • Provide town planning advice, negotiations, discussions and guidance to councillors, applicants and members of the public and local community organisations
  • Prepare appeal statements and evidence for hearings and public inquiries


  • Experience working in a local authority capacity 
  • Working knowledge of how to process a variety of applications. (From HH to small majors)
  • Able to work to tight deadlines and execute tasks in a timely fashion to meet the needs of the projects
  • Relevant knowledge of latest planning legislations and procedures

Further details:

This role is on a 3-month initial contract with a potential for extension to 6 months.

It will be remote working but with a maximum frequency of 1 site visit per week or up to 2 Bi-weekly (Flexible).

They are looking for an immediate start.


The rates for this role will be negotiated depending on the individual experience.
