The Royal Borough of Greenwich declared a Climate Emergency in 2019 and developed an Evidence Base which sets out the trajectory to net zero by 2030. We are committed to reducing emissions and safeguarding our communities. The number of households in the Royal Borough is predicted to increase 41% between 2013 and 2041. Successfully combining growth, prosperity, action on climate change and reducing air pollution is a challenge.

We need your skills to do this. An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as part of the Planning Policy, Design and Conservation Team. We are looking for an experienced planning policy officer who is passionate about environmental issues.

The role will be key to the successful progress of the Carbon Neutral Plan and setting the Borough on the path to reaching the net zero target. The postholder will:
  • lead on the preparation of a Low Cost Carbon Supplementary Planning Document;
  • support the review of the Local Plan polices on sustainability, to go beyond the current policy regime both locally and in the London Plan;
  • support the Council's statutory planning functions by providing expert advice to case officers on planning applications in relation to securing higher environmental standards;
  • help to provide training and build in-house capacity within the Planning service on environmental sustainability matters.

This is a 12 month fixed term-contract, for a highly motivated individual. If you have good project management skills, are a strong communicator and can work collaboratively across teams and organisations then we would like to hear from you.
