Senior Planner / Principal Planner

Our client is a Local Authority in the Greater Manchester area and they need a Senior/Principal Planner to join their Development Management Team for a contract role. This is an urgent requirement and they need someone who is able to start immediately and who is capable of taking on a varied caseload of major planning applications.

You will manage complex pre-application negotiations and subsequent planning applications for major and strategic developments in the Borough. You will assist the Team Leader in managing the statutory Development Management functions, prepare reports and recommendations, prepare appeal statements, and give evidence to public hearings/ inquiries. This could be a good opportunity for a Senior Planning Officer looking to move into a Principal level role.

To apply you will need a relevant planning degree, extensive development management experience in the public sector and an excellent knowledge of UK planning regulations and guidance; ideally you will be professionally accredited. You will need to have good leadership and negotiation skills and be comfortable dealing with external organisations.

The rate offered will be commensurate with the individual's level of experience and the complexity of the caseload you are able to manage and will be between £35-£45/hr (inside IR35). Initially this contract will run until the end of May 2021 but could be extended.
