About Croydon

Croydon is an ambitious Council with a focus on supporting and encouraging business growth, delivering new homes (specifically affordable homes), responding to local needs and making sure that all benefit from sustainable growth.

Croydon is well placed to be a major strategic force for good growth and transformation in London and the South East. The Council has a vision to deliver sustainable development as envisaged through the Council’s Local Plan. The Council’s planning framework will continue to be focussed on delivery and balance sustainability objectives with development need.

An opportunity to lead the Council’s Plan Making Team as part of the Spatial Planning service does not come along very often, especially whilst the Local Plan Review is underway and we look forward to hearing from you. Should you wish to discuss the role further, please contact Steve Dennington Steve.Dennington@croydon.gov.uk

About the Role

Plan Making Team Leader – Spatial Planning - Scale 16 (£51,837 - £53,928)

The successful candidate will be required to lead and deliver the Council’s planning framework to facilitate the sustainable growth of the borough.  You will have line management responsibility for the Plan Making Team (up to 10 members of staff), which is part of the wider Spatial Planning service.  You will be responsible for also providing guidance on all aspects of the planning framework to support the Council’s Development Management service and regeneration projects. You will be a crucial member of the Spatial Planning Leadership Team to ensure an innovative and sustainable future for the service.

You will work alongside the Head of Spatial Planning and the Placemaking Team Leader to deliver the Local Development Framework Programme, an efficient Section 106 and Community Infrastructure Levy function, research and monitoring function and Spatial Planning service plan. You will be recognised as an important ambassador for the service and the Council more widely.

The successful candidate will need to be a talented, politically astute, enthusiastic, motivated, experienced and knowledgeable individual who demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of strategic planning, plan making, Section 106 and Community Infrastructure Levy and the wider development process.  You will be expected to communicate with confidence, explaining complex planning issues, albeit in a user-friendly manner whilst adapting style and information according to the audience.
