An opportunity has arisen for the role of Planning Enforcement Officer for the Council for a temporary 12month period, building a strong relationship with other services. We are looking for a planning professional with experience in planning enforcement to join our enforcement team.
You will need to hold a planning or equivalent degree/postgraduate qualification, providing eligibility for membership of the RTPI, or be a member of the National Association of Planning Enforcement (NAPE).
To apply for this role it is essential that you have worked, and preferably managed, in Planning Enforcement previously and that you have an excellent technical knowledge and understanding of relevant planning legislation, and have experience in dealing with related appeals and prosecutions as a result of enforcement action taken. You will need to have excellent communication skills as you will be dealing with the general public and you will need to be confident in your ability to deal with difficult situations to convey complex, detailed information.
You will also need to have knowledge of the general principles of criminal law and enforcement practice. Knowledge of the law around the protection and conservation of listed buildings would also be desirable.
You will be working on a busy case load and will need to have good investigative and record keeping skills. You will achieve your best results through negotiation, but will also need to be persistent and firm where necessary.
The ability to use a range of computer applications and ICT is essential to this role.

From 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2022 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a weekly / monthly deduction (dependent on pay frequency) from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure, those who experience a pay reduction will be awarded of three additional day’s leave (pro rata for part-time).
