An exciting opportunity has arisen in Oxfordshire for a post within the Public Health Team which will support healthy place shaping across the County. 

About us and the role

You will apply public health and/or planning expertise to work with partners to shape and build healthy places for people to work, live and play in Oxfordshire. This will include working with teams within the County Council to support the development of sustainable, active travel policy and infrastructure. It involves commenting on the health impact assessments of major developments and providing public health comments on planning policy consultations including Local Plans, Area Action Plans and Neighbourhood Plans. This work seeks to influence the wider determinants of health and in particular the built environment, promoting prevention and reducing health inequalities. It will include contributing to building capacity for health and wellbeing improvement across the Council, Partners and the Public.

Effective partnership working with a wide range of stakeholders including from other local authorities, the NHS and the voluntary and community sector is central to this post. You will promote and facilitate joint working, collaboration and integrated programmes between partner agencies and key stakeholders across settings and sectors and ensure that target groups and communities are effectively engaged and involved.

About you

We are seeking candidates who have a Degree (grade 11) or Master’s Degree (grade 12), or equivalent experience in a health and wellbeing or urban design/planning related field, be highly self–motivated with exceptional written and verbal communication skills. The job is a development post so the pay/grade of the role will be determined by the experience and qualifications held by each candidate.

You should have experience of working in a public health or health improvement role with a particular interest in the built environment or as a planning/urban design professional with a public health focus, with excellent negotiating and influencing skills, successful delivery of projects in collaboration with partners, within timescale and resources, excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to network and develop effective relationships, sound understanding of community engagement and community development approaches.
