The borough of Welwyn Hatfield offers a wide range of planning opportunities; within our boundary lies the world’s second Garden City, a popular new town, two universities, beautiful greenbelt countryside and nationally important Grade I listed buildings and parks, giving planning a prominent profile.

As Head of Planning, you will be playing a vital role in the council’s major development schemes and will represent the council in a number of growth and regeneration and business partnerships, supporting local priorities and regeneration aspirations at a strategic level.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly capable and experienced planner. You will be building on our success to date, leading and transforming our planning service as part of the council’s ambitious modernisation agenda.

The successful candidate will also lead the council’s climate change and economic development strategies, both vital parts of the pandemic recovery plan. Additionally, as a member of our senior management team, this role includes the opportunity to work across the council on a diverse range of transformation and other corporate projects.
