DEPARTMENT: BUSINESS, GROWTH AND INFRASTRUCTURE

JOB TITLE: CAREER GRADE PLANNER (FULL TIME)

SALARY: Grade 8 to 12 (£22,183 to £36,922)

CLOSING DATE: 5pm, 12th February 2021

This is an exciting but challenging opportunity for an enthusiastic, hard-working and well organised planner to work within the Council’s Development Plans team.

Bury is a great place to live and work. It has excellent access to wide areas of countryside whilst also including vibrant urban areas, including Bury town centre which, behind Manchester city centre and the Trafford Centre, is the third highest ranking retail centre within Greater Manchester.

This opportunity comes at an exciting time to be involved in development planning with the Council looking to build on its previous successes with a range of key regeneration projects.

At the same time, Greater Manchester has ambitious aspirations for growth with Bury, alongside other Greater Manchester districts, working collaboratively on a joint statutory development plan which will be one of the key mechanisms for delivering this growth. Alongside this, we are working on our own Local Plan that will set out more locally-specific planning policies and designations within the context of the joint strategic plan.

We are currently dealing with an exciting range of planning challenges, balancing needs for major new development and infrastructure linked to the Council’s growth agenda against the protection of the Borough’s greenspaces and other environmental assets.

Principally, the successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of duties associated with the preparation and progression of Bury’s statutory development plan and other associated planning policy work. However, there may also be opportunities to work on other economic development and environmental planning projects.

You must have experience of working on planning policy and development plans or planning projects. You must hold at least a degree in planning or a related discipline and have a good knowledge of relevant legislation, guidance and procedures.

You must also be able to communicate well, analyse information in a clear and logical manner, meet priorities and deadlines and have good IT skills. You should also be able to work well as a team member and individually with minimum supervision.

The post is career graded but it is anticipated that an appointment will be made at either Planning Officer level (Grade 11 - £32,234 to £33,782) or Senior Planning Officer level (Grade 12 - £34,728 to £36,922).
