Senior Planner Policy

PO3: Starting salary £39,462 rising in annual increments to £42,609 pa incl LW plus market supplement.

The successful candidate will contribute to the work of the Planning Strategy and Policy team, including the new and exciting design-led capacity approach to the upcoming Site Allocations DPD, preparation of supplementary planning documents, Article 4 directions, collating evidence base studies and monitoring reports.  The role will also involve providing advice to officers, developers and members of the public on all aspects of planning policy, as well as guidance to neighbourhood planning groups.

Lambeth is a vibrant borough located in the heart of London. Its favourable position attracts iconic projects by international developers and world class architects such as the redevelopment of Shell Centre in Waterloo.  The borough is unique in its variety of locations stretching from Waterloo and Vauxhall in the north, with a distinctive range of prominent riverside development opportunities, with lively and diverse town centres such as Brixton and Clapham, through to Streatham and Norwood in the south.

Lambeth’s priorities are inclusive growth, reducing inequality and creating strong and stable neighbourhoods. Current work programming will embrace the challenge of the next 15 years and focus on issues such as:

  • How to provide more good quality housing and employment opportunities in the borough along with the necessary supporting infrastructure
  • How to make the best of the regeneration opportunities, using planning policy to guide major development proposals and shape the quality of places
  • How to address the different and complex elements of housing need in Lambeth within the context of national and regional policy
  • How to improve and secure the environmental sustainability of the borough for the benefit of all

The role requires strong skills and experience in planning policy and collaborative working in a local planning authority context.  Candidates should ideally have an RTPI recognised degree-level qualification in Town Planning or equivalent and be eligible for membership of the RTPI. Experience of planning policy work in London is desirable but not essential; all candidates should have a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of existing and emerging planning legislation, policy and guidance relevant to a London borough.

This post’s salary currently attracts a market supplement of 7% per month.

The closing date for receiving the completed application form is Monday 8 February 2021 at midnight.

Lambeth is committed to Safer Recruitment and aims for quality services and equal opportunities for all.
