We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a passion for planning and a positive can-do attitude to join our friendly Development Management team at Lichfield District Council in the senior post of Principal Planning Officer (Planning Applications Team Leader).

Lichfield is one of the finest cathedral cities in the country, which offers an exciting challenge - protecting and enhancing a high quality environment while managing the delivery of sustainable economic growth.

Ideally situated in the heart of the Midlands, with our offices based in the historic centre of Lichfield, we are within easy reach of Birmingham and the District includes beautiful countryside including an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  This presents a broad range of development opportunities, challenges and pressures for the District.

We offer flexible working arrangements, essential car user allowance and payment of RTPI professional fees, together with a generous annual leave entitlement, local government pension scheme and a positive approach to employee wellbeing.

In this role you will lead and have direct line management responsibilities for the planning applications case officer team and also be part of the wider management of the Development Management team, supporting the Planning Development Manager.  You will be required to present to Planning Committee and have a clear commitment to CPD.

You should be a qualified planner (MRTPI) with significant experience of development management and have effective management skills, demonstrating a positive team approach and commitment to the Council's values to improve & innovate, put customers first and have respect for everyone.

You should also be organised and have excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills and be committed to quality in the built environment.

Please note that it is essential that you hold a driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes with appropriate business cover insurance.
