Our client is a Local Authority based in Surrey and they are seeking an experienced Planning Manager for their Development Management team. You will oversee all aspects of planning application case work including appeals, allocated sites, conservation and enforcement, allocation of workload and management of staff.
As well as day to day management of the teams you may, on occasion, be called to act as an expert witness and assist with complex major applications. Fundamentally you will have responsibility for delivering the council's statutory responsibilities for the determination of planning applications under the Town and Country Planning Acts and related legislation.
Applicants for this post must be qualified Town Planners with recent proven experience of holding a similar position within a Local Authority setting in the UK. Your strong technical knowledge of UK planning legislation will need to be complimented with good management skills and the confidence and ability to direct a team. Critical to this role will be the ability to communicate effectively and to engage in negotiations that can often be sensitive and complex so you will need to be able to engage productively with third parties to develop good relationships that ensure successful development.
