Responsibilities of this role:
Lead, manage and direct a team of multidisciplinary, professional and technical staff for Council to deliver an effective, efficient and proactive customer focused business in accordance with the requirements of legislation, delegated powers, Council Standing Orders and officer codes of practice.
Maximise income through the effective management of the building control activities, and the annual review of charges, the analysis of competitor pricing strategy and in response to changing customer behaviour.
Proactively market and promote the building control service through the development and management of a sales and marketing strategy, through promotional and educational material and the development of an organisational culture and management ethos that puts the customer first.
Exercise rigorous financial control of all aspects of the service within their designated area of responsibility in accordance with Council codes of practice, policy and standing orders.
Develop performance programmes for building control activity and monitoring of outcomes and targets.
Maintain accurate up to date records of all activity including enforcement, service requests and escalated complaint issues.
Represent the service at all levels within and external to the Council, including Cabinet, Cabinet Member, Chief Officers Board, residents associations, business and trade organisations; and to develop excellent professional relationships with service users based on the principles of partnership, co-operation and customer care.
