I am working on behalf of a Local Authority situated in Essex, assisting them in finding them an Interim Planning Officer who they require for an initial 3 month contract.
Your key responsibility will be to handle a large caseload of mixed applications, primarily consisting of Householders and potentially small Minors. It will most likely involve both Urban Developments and Greenbelt cases.
You will need to manage applications through their entire process and be able to write eloquent reports and validations. Furthermore, the successful candidate will need to be confident in providing both verbal and written advice and recommendations to members of the public, developers, and members.
My client would welcome an experienced Officer but have also stressed to me that equally they would consider a more junior Planning Assistant/Graduate.
This is a fantastic opportunity for junior Planners to get some invaluable experience within a Local Authority and begin their journey to becoming a senior Officer. You will get the opportunity to work with experienced Planners who will offer mentoring and coaching when appropriate. If successful, you will also get the chance to attend Planning Committee.
The rate for the contract greatly depends on your level of experience, but will likely fall in the region of £30-£35 an hour.
