Job Details

We’re making sure we are fit for the future – and we want you onboard!

South Kesteven is a district full of promise and potential. It is home to innovative entrepreneurs and savvy start-ups, a base for global enterprise, and is perfectly situated in the heart of England. We have much to be proud of, and much to offer.

Our Council serves four towns within Lincolnshire – Grantham, Stamford, Bourne and the Deepings. We are privileged to serve our residents and want them to be at the heart of everything we do. Our recently approved Corporate Plan 2020-23 clearly sets out how South Kesteven District Council intends to meet that promise and potential, in line with our vision is “to be the best district in which to live, work and visit” – and sustainable growth is a fundamental part of this.

Alongside our new Corporate Plan, we have also recently adopted our Local Plan 2011-2036 which sets out the growth ambitions and potential across the District, which include:

An ambitious growth programme for Grantham including a garden village, mixed use redevelopment of the Prince William of Gloucester Barracks, and a significant employment opportunity area to complement 10,000 new homes, schools and associated local centres and amenities

  • An ambitious growth scheme to the North of Stamford including 2000 new homes a school and local centre, to be delivered in partnership with Rutland County Council
  • Opportunities to deliver a range of high quality commercial and residential developments

What we need:

You will have a planning qualification or are working towards completing your planning degree. You might be looking for your first job or a new opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge. As investing in our staff is important, we provide CPD training opportunities and pay RTPI membership fees.

As part of our commitment to ‘being the best’ we have recently undertaken an external planning review, which has outlined ways in which we can work more effectively to meeting the needs of our District – and we are committed to our team to being one which has an ethos of learning and improvement.

We are looking for two new members of the team who display a positive approach to problem solving, work effectively with others and take responsibility for their actions.

What you will do:

You will be part of a proactive team, working directly with an experienced Principal Planner to undertake a varied caseload of applications, for which you will be responsible.

Alongside this you will have the opportunity to work with other more senior officers across the Council on more complex, strategic schemes and projects. This role will give you the opportunity to apply and develop your skills and experience across a wide range of development types in a District with huge potential for growth. The role will enable you to work in a flexible and agile way.

This is a great career move for someone who wants to work for an ambitious, agile and commercially aware authority that has growth as a key corporate priority. We hope to give you the opportunity to flourish and grow in your career.

If you are passionate about delivering quality development, then we would love to hear from you.

About the team:

As part of the newly formed Growth and Culture directorate, the team plays a key role in delivering new housing, town centre regeneration and attracting new businesses to the District. Our ethos is not about speed and numbers at any cost – our newly formed, collaborative approach to achieving high quality design is unique within Lincolnshire. The landscape and heritage assets of the District make it an attractive place to live and work, with Stamford being our Georgian highlight and the country’s first Conservation Area. Delivering the housing allocation of 650 high quality homes per year as outlined in our new Local Plan is a major driver of our workload.

What we will do in return:

We are committed to caring for our employees both inside and outside the workplace and provide a variety of benefits, such as:

  • a generous pension scheme,
  • opportunities to progress and develop your career and skillset
  • access to a range of health and wellbeing activities
  • Flexible working
  • generous leave entitlement of 25 days (rising to 30 days after 5 years’ service),
  • travel season ticket loan and a variety of other staff/family friendly benefits and discounts.

For an informal chat about the role please contact Phil Jordan, Phil Moore or Chris Brown on 01476 406080

Closing date: Monday 4th January 2021

Interviews: w/c 11th January 2021
