Folkestone & Hythe District Council have an ambitious development agenda and are looking to expand the planning team to help us deliver our ambitions.

Folkestone & Hythe District Council is a dynamic and innovative place to live, work and visit. Based in our modern offices in the heart of Folkestone, with easy access to transport links, local shops, entertainment facilities and the seafront, we offer a flexible working environment, corporate membership and reward schemes, Employee Assistance Programme, and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Our mission is to create a world class quality environment that will stand the test of time whether relating to a householder extension or one of our exciting and ambitious projects that are in the pipeline such as the proposed garden town at Otterpool Park and regeneration plans for the Town Centre, Harbour and Seafront. We are looking for energetic, skilled and creative planners and graduates with drive to improve and help to shape the area.

The senior roles will suit experienced planners who are commercially minded and are place-making focussed. You will have a track record of successfully leading major development projects through the planning system and of delivering high quality, sustainable development. You will also possess outstanding technical knowledge, have excellent communication skills and be able to lead project teams. A passion for good urban design will also be important as we continue our drive to secure great design.

For these roles we are looking for talented individuals with public or private sector experience of dealing with a wide range of planning and related applications, including major applications.
You will also have experience of appearing at public inquiries and/or informal hearings. If you feel that you are one of the outstanding individuals that we are looking for, and if you are up to the challenge and would relish this opportunity, we would welcome your application.

For the graduate posts we are looking for dynamic, creative, driven individuals with good people skills who want to make a difference. There may be opportunities for the post holders to undertake post-graduate training.

The senior post holders will be expected to be educated to degree level, have a professionally recognised planning qualification and either be a member of the RTPI or be eligible for membership.
The graduate posts expect applicants to be educated to degree level, ideally with a degree in a planning related subject such as geography, architecture, planning or similar disciplines.

In return, we can offer you a chance to thrive, develop and make a lasting impact on Folkestone and its surrounding areas. The roles are permanent and have a competitive salary and there will be opportunities for further training.
