We need a committed Strategic City Planning Manager to help deliver our high-profile plans for growth and regeneration across Bristol, supporting the creation of a city of hope and aspiration, addressing climate change and the ecological crisis and ensuring balanced and sustainable communities for the future. The role is challenging but also exciting, as you’ll play a key part in making our clear, ambitious strategy a success. Bristol is a great city to plan for, with high quality open spaces, historic assets, a significant cultural context and a real need for intervention to enable place making to deliver the homes and jobs and quality places communities need.
What will I be doing?
You’ll lead on our strategic and local planning policy at a West of England, citywide and neighbourhood level. You’ll drive the development of corporate and cross-authority engagement on land use plan making and take an innovative approach to policy delivery, in turn helping us meet our wider goals. Through this approach you will ensure the delivery of an up-to-date local plan for Bristol supported by key spatial and demographic evidence that enables effective planning policy and development management decision making.
Across all your responsibilities, clear management and strong community engagement with under-represented groups will be crucial.
What do I need to have?
You’ll be a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) with extensive experience in planning policy work. This includes a strong track record in delivering strategies at a senior/managerial level. You should be a skilled negotiator, collaborator and leader with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
You will have demonstrable experience of operating effectively in a political environment with wide range of key stakeholders. It’s also important that you have an understanding of climate/ecological factors in planning and development, and a working knowledge of digital technologies.
