Major Developments Team Leader REF: POSN190053

Grade J: £46,388.50 - £49,496.50 per annum  (pending cost of living uplift)

37 hours per week, permanent

The Job:

With innovative and large-scale housing developments such as the country’s largest self-build community at Graven Hill, the exemplar zero-carbon development at North West Bicester, and the redevelopment of a former Cold War airbase, Cherwell is committed to doing things differently.

We are an ambitious, growth focused organisation with a commitment to healthy place-shaping. We are a signatory to the Oxfordshire Housing and Growth Deal agreed with Government which supports £215m of investment for new homes and infrastructure across Oxfordshire. We have three urban areas all with planned growth situated within the Oxford-Cambridge Arc.  Cherwell is growing.

Cherwell has attractive countryside lying at the northern edge of the Cotswolds.  Its ironstone and limestone villages, many listed buildings and conservation areas ensure a wide variety of case work.

Organisationally we have a joint management team with Oxfordshire County Council and close working relationships with our neighbouring districts through the Oxfordshire Growth Board.

The Person:

You be required to lead a team of very experienced and capable officers to ensure business continuity and continuous improvement.  You will report to and receive support from the Senior Manager – Development Management and be required to work collaboratively with other Team Leaders.  You will support the goals of the wider Planning and Development department, the joint CDC/OCC Place and Growth directorate and other Council services.

An experienced, chartered town planner is required.   You will need to be good with people, decisive and astute and have the skills to drive forward major developments to implementation.  You should have significant development management experience, be adept in addressing planning committee and be very capable in a public inquiry/hearing situation.  You should have a good understanding of planning and development more generally.

The Benefits:

The Council is an equal opportunities employer and has flexible working practices.

•         A generous annual leave entitlement

•         Opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme

•         Cycle to work scheme (after one years’ service)

•         Incremental pay award (awarded annually in April after one years’ service)

Closing date:            Sunday 25 October 2020

Interview date:        w/c Monday 09 November 2020
