If you are an ambitious town planner looking for a career enhancing role with significant opportunity to gain valuable management experience and progress within the Council, this is the ideal role. The Planning Policy team at Runnymede Borough Council has recently adopted its new Local Plan and is now beginning to implement the policies and plan for a future review. This position provides a great opportunity for the postholder to raise their profile and quickly enhance their personal development by leading on key projects and providing management support to the Local Plans Manager.

Who we are

Runnymede’s location close to London and Heathrow Airport, make it an interesting and exciting place to pursue the challenges of plan making and delivery. The Local Plan sets out ambitious growth for the Borough, including a new Garden Village and Enterprise Zone at Longcross.  In addition, National Strategic Infrastructure Projects including the planned delivery of a major flood alleviation scheme in the Borough all present opportunities for the successful candidate to broaden their planning knowledge and strengthen their skillset.

The Planning Policy team is small, friendly and ambitious and sits within the Planning Policy and Economic Development Business Unit.  Our aim is to deliver growth in a way that respects and maintains the character of Runnymede and delivers infrastructure and services to support it.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a confident, self-motivated and diplomatic person with supervision/management experience who has a positive work ethic and wants to continue to develop their professional and management skills within a supportive and friendly environment. Ideally applicants will be full chartered members of the RTPI.  Non chartered members will only be considered where they have an RTPI accredited degree. Candidates must have significant planning experience, some of which should ideally have been gained in a planning policy environment. They should also be able to demonstrate evidence of relevant continuous professional development.

You will need to be highly organised, able to prioritise and effectively manage a varied workload and work independently as well as in a team. You should be able to work positively with members, officers and a range of partners, motivating others where necessary, be able to give clear accurate advice and be confident in representing the Council at a range of external meetings and events as well as at Public Inquiries. You will demonstrate good verbal, written, numerical and IT skills and be an effective problem solver.  You must have a full driving licence with access to a vehicle insured for business use.

What can we offer you?

Our team provides a supportive and positive environment in which to work and develop. This role will allow you to develop your professional, management and leadership skills with the successful candidate assisting with the day to day supervision/management of the officers within the Planning Policy Team.
