Are you looking to broaden your planning experience with the challenges of working in a District which not only has a thriving economy and pressures for growth, but also covers part of the South Downs National Park, the natural beauty of the Chichester Harbour AONB and a rich and varied heritage, including the historic roman City of Chichester?

Chichester District is a highly attractive place to live and work, home to a number of historic towns and villages, surrounded by beautiful countryside. Centred on the historic cathedral city of Chichester, it is a large rural district stretching from the south coast to the Surrey border and includes a large part of the South Downs National Park and the tranquil Chichester Harbour AONB. Chichester District Council offers flexible working patterns including the option of a 9 day fortnight, in addition to options to buy additional annual leave, and payment of RTPI subscriptions. The Council promotes a work/life balance, including the ability to operate from home as well as from the office.

We are looking to recruit a new Planning Policy Team Manager to contribute to the Local Plan Review and help to shape the future sustainable growth of this economically buoyant and environmentally sensitive area. You will have experience of strategic planning, and will have a demonstrable record of planning policy work. The role is focused on guiding and coordinating the work of the planning policy team, and in particular to bring forward a new Local Plan.

The Council published a preferred approach plan in December 2018 and is seeking to finalise a proposed submission plan for consultation in the spring of 2021. This is an exciting time in the Policy Team as, in addition to bringing forward a new Local Plan, the Council is taking a proactive role in securing the delivery of development, both on greenfield sites and the regeneration of Chichester City Centre.

Closing date: 5 October 2020

Interviews are likely to take place w/c 26 October 2020. These may need to be undertaken via video.
