Job Details

Historic England - We are the public body that looks after England`s historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people to understand, value, and care for them.

This is an exciting time to join our Planning team. As well as the opportunity to work with a wide variety of historic places across England, we offer a wide benefits package including a competitive pension scheme, a generous 28 days holiday, corporate discounts, free entry into English Heritage sites across the county and development opportunities to ensure you achieve your goals. Having just won the Gold Award from MIND, we also recognise the importance of a healthy work -life balance. Therefore, we offer the flexibility in your working day to create a pattern that works for you.

We are looking for a confident and creative planner to lead our national planning team, and act as a powerful and public advocate for both the importance of heritage in the planning system, and the central place of planning in protecting heritage. The planning system is an essential mechanism for delivering heritage and wider objectives. As our new Head of Planning Strategy, you will anticipate and influence changes in the national planning agenda, support the development and delivery of planning and heritage reform, and develop and disseminate Historic England`s strategic advice on planning.

You will also lead the team`s work on local government, growth, infrastructure, transport, minerals, regeneration, tourism and related topics. As an effective communicator, you will adopt a collaborative approach allowing you to work well as part of a multi-disciplinary cross-group team. You have experience of negotiating with external partners at a senior level and the ability to produce written text to a high standard appropriate for specific and varying audiences.

Interviews will take place via phone/video call.

We are an equal opportunity employer which values diversity and inclusion. If you have a disability, we would be happy to discuss reasonable adjustments to the job with you. We very much look forward to receiving your application.
