Job Details
Job Duties:
As a leading local authority Hertfordshire County Council is an innovative organisation, developing and delivering cost-effective, citizen-focused services. Our people are proactive, flexible and ambitious, and bring different skills and life-experiences to do what matters – to enable the people of our county to live safe, healthy and happy lives.
Join us and, as the Council’s main technical advisor on minerals and waste policy, you’ll lead on the development of plans to promote the sustainable delivery of aggregates for the county and waste management facilities.
What you’ll do
One of your priorities will be to take forward the Council’s local plans for minerals and waste, due to be submitted for examination in 2021 and 2022, leading the teams responsible for progressing these plans through to implementation.
Representing the Council at regional bodies on waste and minerals planning, you’ll influence how we deal with both our commercial and local authority collected waste, as well as how we meet our sand and gravel extraction requirements to support local construction projects. This will include identifying environmentally acceptable and economically viable sites for mineral extraction, as well as for waste collection, recycling, disposal and other waste stream elements. And, keeping up to date with nationwide developments in minerals and waste policy, you’ll identify opportunities for the Council to continue adopting innovative and sustainable approaches.
What you’ll bring
With a post-degree qualification, or extensive experience, in Town Planning or other closely related discipline, you should have a background in minerals and waste policy development - preferably gained within a local authority.
You’ll also need experience of:
• The local planning process, along with the ability to prepare and present evidence at Local Plan Examinations.
• Working with politicians, along with the ability to present politically contentious and technically complex matters at Members meetings and Cabinet Panels.
• Leading and organising teams of professionals.
Closing Date: 24th May 2020
Interview Date: w/c 8th June 2020
