This post is one of three deputy team leader posts in the Planning Applications Team. 

Essentially you will have a senior role in the team and be responsible to the Team Leader - Planning Applications and assist in providing a high quality, customer-focused planning service, by acting as or managing other case officers in: 

  • Handling a range of planning applications, including more complex issues and the negotiation of more complex planning agreements
  • Handling of all aspects of appeals; enquiries from customers;
  • Contributing to the review of processes and procedures for the delivery of the service and formulation and development of planning policy;

You will have considerable involvement with local people, politicians and a range of external organisations so it is essential that you have effective oral communication skills, report writing and presentation skills along with having:  

  • Significant experience of planning application and/or enforcement processes and the administration of planning controls and regulations. 
  • Experience of handling significant planning applications in Development Management.
  • Experience of dealing with appeals and planning inquiries and informal hearings.

The borough has an excellent quality of life with growing towns and breath-taking countryside. It’s close to the coast, has good schools, and its house prices are lower than much of the south east.  London is just 38 minutes from Ashford by train.
