Do you have a passion for improving access and inclusion in London?

If so, the GLA’s London Plan Team has a fantastic opportunity for you to cover the secondment of our Principal Advisor for Access and Inclusion.  You will take a lead role in ensuring London grows in the most accessible and inclusive way possible.

The role sits within the London Plan team and you will be joining the team at a crucial time in implementing the new London Plan. The main policies you will be responsible for are policies D5 Inclusive design, D7 Accessible housing, H12 Supported and specialist accommodation, H13 Specialist older person housing and S6 Public toilets, but you will also be involved in other policies. Opportunities may also arise to work on a broader range of planning topics in addition to the access and inclusion portfolio.

You will play a key role in supporting colleagues in undertaking equalities impact assessments and thus will need a thorough understanding of the Public Sector Equality Duty. In addition to policy work, you will also provide advice on the range of planning applications referable to the Mayor as well as being involved in the development of Opportunity Area Frameworks.

You will be expected to present reports to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor directly, so you will need excellent written and verbal communication skills.  You’ll need to have a track record of achievement in a comparable role and have highly effective technical, inter-personal and management skills and be committed to building successful relationships with a broad range of officers and stakeholders.

This job is ‘politically restricted’ under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
