This is an excellent opportunity for someone with building conservation experience who wants to build on their skills and knowledge of historic environments.

You will be part of our multidiscipline Design and Delivery team. Within this team, the busy historic environment service works to manage change within Dudley borough’s historic environment.

You will build on your current knowledge and skills by supporting the Senior Historic Conservation Officer in providing specialist advice to council colleagues, including to the planning authority, the public and developers. You will also be part of the project teams that are preparing funding applications and managing major programmes, which are delivering significant improvement to the borough’s historic environment.

You will have:

  • Previous relevant experience of working in the field of building conservation.
  • Be qualified or be studying for a qualification in a related subject.
  • Agreement to enter into and complete the requisite period of study in order to achieve qualification for Membership of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC).

At Dudley Council, we seek to ensure that our staff have an excellent work/life balance as well as opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills. This post therefore offers flexible and agile working and a wide range of learning & development opportunities.

We also offer a generous annual leave entitlement, with opportunities to accrue additional days of flexi leave, as well as free car parking and paid mileage.

Dudley offers all the benefits that come with being part of the vibrant West Midlands urban conurbation whilst also being located close to open countryside, with the beautiful Clent Hills and Baggeridge Country Park on its doorstep. It also has a number of excellent visitor attractions along with many high quality green spaces, including The Leasowes Grade I Listed landscape.

The borough has a rich and diverse archaeological and built heritage much of which is built on the important industrial heritage of the area. However, the history of the borough goes back far before the Industrial Revolution, with the Medieval Dudley Castle being the iconic historic landmark of the borough.

Dudley is rightly proud of its rich heritage, but it is also a place that is moving forward with its recently launched ‘Forging a Future for All’ which sets out ambitious plans for the regeneration of the borough making it a great place for people to live, work and visit.
