Role Purpose

The Strategic Planning service is formed of two teams; Plan Making and Place Shaping. It sits within the Place Directorate, which works across six service areas, including Development Management and the Infrastructure teams, as well as a newly formed Regeneration team – which has been created to further respond to the opportunities in the borough.   All of these service areas work very closely to ensure we secure sustainable developments in the borough to serve the community and its needs.  With a newly appointed Director, the service is undergoing transformation to better deliver positive change across the borough, all alongside a new Local Plan, an area action plan for the east of borough and a suite of supplementary guidance.

To ensure the effective delivery of the team’s priorities for the year ahead we are looking for positive and energetic individuals to lead on projects and provide advice in relation to a range of different planning applications.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will play a key part in embedding the new Local Plan and developing supplementary planning policy, with internal colleagues and external stakeholders.  You will have a sound understanding of plan making policies and procedures.  Ideally, candidates will have experience in housing, employment and/or heritage and design policy formulation and implementation.

Post graduate qualification in town planning or related subject. Eligibility for chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute is required for grade PO3.

As career grade posts, it is suitable for candidates with different levels of experience.

Level 1 is aimed at those who have recently completed a planning qualification or some limited planning experience.

Level 2 is suitable for qualified planners (MRTPI) with a good level of policy and plan making experience.

Level 3 (Senior Planner) is suitable for planners with a higher level of hands on experience and able to deliver with less supervision and support.

Please state which level you are applying for.
