Role Purpose

This is an exciting time to join the Council's Planning Service and have a major influence on the shape and form of future development in Tower Hamlets.  We have opportunities for graduate planners to join our development management, planning compliance and plan making teams.

The Council has ambitious plans for regeneration, growth and the delivery of new homes and infrastructure.  Our new local plan "Managing Growth and Sharing the Benefits" has been through examination and is heading towards adoption in early 2020.  We are investing in new ways of working and optimising the use of digital technology to deliver our services.

Covering the vibrant east end, Canary Wharf and parts of the Olympic legacy area, Tower Hamlets is an incredibly diverse and dynamic place.  Add in an extensive river frontage, three London Plan opportunity areas and an impressive built heritage Tower Hamlets is an exciting place to develop your planning career.

We are passionate about what we do and we are committed to creating great places that make our communities proud to live in and that can be enjoyed, now and long into the future.  To help us achieve this we are looking for graduates who have a first degree in planning or a related subject who would like to kick start their planning career in one of London's top growth boroughs.   

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to gain experience across different teams, whilst being supported to study for a post-graduate planning qualification.

The Council has a modern working environment and offers a range of flexible working options.  There is support for staff to develop and progress in their career including management and leadership programmes. 

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will contribute to a range of planning projects, manage a case load of planning applications or compliance/enforcement case, depending on the team they are placed in.

Requirements

A first degree (or equivalent) in town planning or a related subject that would allow entry to a post-graduate planning course.
