Job Details

Fancy living on the sunny south coast, with its expansive beaches, watersports, beautiful coastal walks and cosy country pubs on your doorstep? My client is based close to the sea in a sought after coastal town with both vibrant cities and the stunning South Downs just around the corner!

This successful south coast planning practice is seeking Planners to join them in delivering a range of residential, commercial, education, strategic promotions and masterplanning projects, managing their existing client relationships and helping them to grow the business further. As such, they are open to people at a variety of levels to fill at least 2 posts (please see details on different levels of post below).

Local area experience is not required. The skillset, attitude and potential of candidates are the key priorities for these hires, so if you are looking to relocate to the south coast from another part of the country, your application is welcomed, even at the most senior levels. However is you are able to bring local experience and client relationships then this will be suitably rewarded.

A high degree of flexibility is offered to all staff. They are ‘life-friendly’ and believe that happy and contented staff who don’t feel overworked and are able to take part in their favourite hobbies, attend school sports day or be around for their children after school will not only be more successful at work but will also be more likely to stay in the business long term. You can work from home if it suits you, work a compressed 4 day week in order to have a day off, work 9am – 3pm or other part time hours or whatever alternative option works for you so long as you can attend site visits, client meetings and committee / hearings as required. The possibilities are endless and my client is open to considering all options put forward.

In return, you will be rewarded with a very competitive annual salary, pension scheme, HMRC mileage, professional subscriptions paid, childcare vouchers if required, at least 25 days holiday and excellent bonuses.

Planner / Senior Planner:

Planners from a private or public sector background will be considered at these levels. A commercial mindset is essential, but someone with strong development management skills gained in local authority who is looking to move across to consultancy could fit the bill. You will be required to deliver on planning projects of small, medium and large scales, taking on your own small and medium sized projects whilst assisting on major schemes as you gain further professional skills. You should be MRTPI or on the APC pathway.

Principal / Associate Planner:

To join this consultancy at Principal or Associate level, you will ideally have recent private sector experience, either for another consultancy or a developer. Proven experience of developing client relationships is important, so if you don't have this you will need to consider how you would go about networking and developing your own business stream. This consultancy benefit for considerable repeat business from their clients so there is plenty of pipeline and future work, but an astute commercial mindset is important if you are to be really successful here.

As a Principal or Associate, you will be expected to lead on large projects and manage project teams. You will have gained a wealth of experience in appraising sites, securing a client's trust, delivering projects with a good success rate, building strong rapport with key stakeholders and local authority planners and managing the appeals process where required. You should be MRTPI or MRICS (P&D) qualified.

Associate Director / Director:

To be considered for a Director level post, it is essential that you have gained solid consultancy experience and that you already operate at a senior level (Associate or above) in your current company. Naturally you will already be a chartered Town Planner.

You will be heavily involved in the day to day management of the office, including leading staff and offering insight into your knowledge and experience through the training and mentoring of more junior planners. You will also be involved in planning for the future growth and expansion of the business, contributing to and implementing new ideas and helping to progress the visions and values of the company.

Business development experience is essential - you should have a proven record of seeking out new client opportunities and developing them into fee earning work (although you are not expected to bring an immediate client base).

You will be well rewarded for your hard work and commitment to the business.

NB: The client may not hire at all the above levels. It will depend on candidate interest and suitability. They are looking for the 'right' individuals for the business and can therefore accommodate any level of professional from 2 years’ experience upwards. Hires will be made on merit.

If you want to find out more about these exciting opportunities then give Claire a call on 07983 143 831 or 020 7859 4246. Alternatively, use the apply button below or send your CV to claire@lewisdavey.com including a contact number so that I can get in touch with you.

Please note that we will endeavour to review your application within two weeks and if there is interest in your candidacy, a Consultant will be in touch. Unfortunately, due to the significant amount of applications we receive, we are unable to provide individual feedback so if you have not heard from us within two weeks, please consider your application unsuccessful.  Thank you for your interest.
