Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council are committed to becoming the best planning authority in Hertfordshire. To achieve this, we’re seeking driven and ambitious planners, who really want to leave their mark on the garden city. As part of this vision, we currently have an excellent opportunity for a Development Management Officer.

In this vital planning role, you’ll enjoy the challenge of working in a small but busy team, with opportunities to work on both rural and urban projects. You’ll handle a varied case load of planning applications and applications under the Welwyn Garden City Estate Management Scheme (EMS), as well as dealing with appeals and enforcement investigations. As you gain more experience, the applications you work on will become larger and more complex, giving you the chance to really develop your planning portfolio.

Your responsibilities will include visiting sites to assess the merits of the proposed development, taking accounts of views expressed by partners and the public, and writing reports. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are therefore vital. We’ll also expect you to have strong analytical and judgment skills in order to interpret plans, information and data, as well as being a great problem solver.

As our Career Graded Development Management Officer, you’ll join a forward-thinking council that puts their customers first. We know that in order to provide the best for our residents and visitors, we need to do the same for our people. We have set out to make our workplaces vibrant and happy places to be; places where our people feel safe, content and valued. From a generous annual leave entitlement, to flexible working, and opportunities to buy and sell leave, our benefits package provides a great work/life balance.

If you are interested in working in a high-performance authority and helping to shape our New Town and Garden City environments, we want to hear from you.

On this occasion we are seeking to appoint more experienced candidates with the appropriate skills to deal with more complex planning applications.

Closing date: 24 November 2019.
Assessment and interview date: 28 November 2019.
