HEAD OF PLANNING, SUSTAINABILITY AND INFRASTRUCTURE

Package to £80,373 (with potential for a market supplement)

Basingstoke and Deane is a borough with a great story to tell. Home to one of the most dynamic economies in the UK, the borough continues to be a great destination for businesses. And with large-scale development and home building projects underway, more and more people are choosing to live and work here. This combination of major employers, a skilled workforce, excellent connectivity and a top-class retail, leisure and culture offer is a great foundation for further growth. The council plays a key role in ensuring the borough continues to thrive, acting as both catalyst and steward, facilitating planned growth supported by the right infrastructure, and protecting our fantastic natural assets.

Leading the council’s Planning and Infrastructure business unit you’ll be responsible for the following key service areas:

  • climate change;
  • transport and infrastructure;
  • planning policy;
  • building control;
  • development management;
  • conservation;
  • land charges.

You’ll lead on the development of planning policy and infrastructure planning for the borough, ensuring our local and neighbourhood plans support our aspirations for well-managed growth, balanced with the need to protect our natural environment and promote wellbeing. As the council’s chief planner, you’ll act as principal adviser on town and country planning and building control regulatory functions. And you’ll ensure that we continue to provide a high quality development management service, that is customer focused, highly efficient and accountable.

It’s essential that you are a member of a relevant professional body such as RTPI and that you already have a proven career path in leading improvement in planning and regulatory services. An experienced manager of people and resources, you’ll have a clear sense of what makes teams perform well, and how to develop talent from within.

Working across a portfolio of services that attract considerable attention and scrutiny, it’s essential that you understand the dynamics of working within a political setting.

Closing date: 25th November.
