For this role: You will be mostly office based at Forde House, Newton Abbot with some business travel. Due to the nature of the role, there will be an expectation that you will need to attend events and meetings outside of the district and, on occasions, outside normal office hours.

What you'll be doing: The Council has a clear ten year strategy which prioritises high quality place making, affordable housing, job creation, town centre investment and development, estate management, sustainable travel and infrastructure improvement, whilst addressing climate change.
We are looking for a collaborative leader to drive forward our place making and commercial agenda. A member of the Council’s Senior Leadership Team, reporting to the Managing Director, your remit will include Spatial Planning, Development Management, Economic Development, Building Control and Property and Asset Management.
You will join Teignbridge District Council at an exciting time, with a new Leadership Team taking forward a transformational agenda. Ensuring delivery of high quality planning, economic development and asset management services, you will also maximise opportunities presented by key projects including:
- Greater Exeter Garden Communities;
- Town Centre Developments in Teignmouth and Newton Abbot;
- Working with Homes England to deliver higher levels of affordable housing;
- Our commercialisation and investment programme.
You will provide leadership and oversight to a team of managers responsible for individual functions within your service and contribute to the wider strategic direction of the Council in your role as a member of the Strategic Leadership Team (SLT).
Key elements of the role include taking forward projects that support delivery of the Council’s digital strategy (including service transformation), leading consultation and engagement, demonstrating your ability to develop ideas, policy and strategy working with elected members, the community and key internal and external partners.

Who we're looking for: A leader with an excellent working knowledge of planning and development and a track record in delivering significant plan making, regeneration and investment projects.
To be successful in this role, you will need a Degree or equivalent and be professionally qualified in a relevant service area. You will demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development and this will include leadership / management development.
You will have significant experience at a senior level within local government, including working with elected members, with a track record of delivering service improvement and key corporately significant projects.
With strong partnership working skills and an ability to negotiate and reach agreement with a range of stakeholders, you will take forward the place making and commercialisation agenda of the Council.
You will be able to demonstrate strong people management skills and the ability to lead services through change.

Teignbridge is a local government district in Devon, England. Its council is based in the town of Newton Abbot. The district also includes the towns of Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Dawlish, Kingsteignton and Teignmouth, along with numerous villages and surrounding rural areas. Teignbridge contains part of the south Devon coastline, including the Dawlish Warren National Nature Reserve. Some of the inland western parts of the district lie within the Dartmoor National Park. It is named after the old Teignbridge hundred.
