The five existing councils of Buckinghamshire – Aylesbury Vale, Chiltern, South Bucks and Wycombe District Councils and Buckinghamshire County Council - are developing plans to create a new unitary council, Buckinghamshire Council, by 1st April 2020. This is an exciting opportunity for all the councils in the county to come together to build a brand new council for Buckinghamshire, that will provide all council services in the county, and will build on the best experience and expertise of the five current councils. We are developing plans to build a new unitary council that is ambitious in its outlook, provides Buckinghamshire residents with simpler ways to access services that they need, and makes best use of public money.

We are looking to strengthen the joint Planning Policy and Economic Development team, based in Amersham, by appointing a Planning Policy Team Leader. You will join the team at a professionally exciting and challenging time, working on a new joint Local Plan and helping to prepare for the transition to a single unitary council for Buckinghamshire in April 2020.  The Councils care passionately about protecting their environment (e.g. AONB, Green Belt, town and village character) whilst also planning positively to meet local development needs and delivering sustainable development.

The Planning Policy Team Leader will take the lead on project managing the new joint Local Plan which has recently been submitted for examination to the Planning Inspectorate. In this challenging and rewarding role, you will manage the production process of the Plan and play a prominent part in the public examination hearings, expected to start in late 2019. We are looking for keen and enthusiastic candidate who possess a planning degree and have experience of plan preparation and examination. Experience of Objective software and project management would be an advantage for the Team Leader post though is not essential.

Longer term, there will be an opportunity to shape the new local plan for the whole of Buckinghamshire which will be prepared by the unitary council.
