The Job

We have an exciting opportunity for two highly motivated and energetic planning professionals who can demonstrate the qualities and potential to successfully deal with an interesting and varied caseload of planning applications, including majors (10 – 199 units), as well as medium to small scale infill developments and other minor development proposals.

To apply for these roles it is essential that you have worked as a development management case officer in a local authority planning department or at an equivalent level in a private practice.  The successful candidates must have good fundamental and technical knowledge and understanding of all relevant planning legislation and policies. You will need to have excellent communication and negotiation skills as you will be working in a team environment, as well as dealing with other professionals. We are looking for a motivated self-starter with a can-do attitude. You will also need to demonstrate that you have good problem solving skills, can write comprehensive and accurate planning reports, as well as detailed letters in response to pre-application enquiries. The ideal candidate will also have good organisational skills so as to work to tight deadlines whilst keeping planning records up to date.

The Team

You will be based in one of two area teams.  The team structure consists of a Team Leader, two other Senior Development Management Officers, two Development Management Officers, as well as a Technical Support Officer.  There will be regular cross working with other internal Council teams (such as planning admin/heritage/strategic/policy teams and the enforcement teams), as well as external bodies, for example the Environment Agency.

The Area and the Organisation

Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a beautiful district that boasts thriving market towns and many attractive villages, each with its own identity. The Anglo-Saxon and Roman history is prevalent throughout the district in its historic buildings, churches and fine houses. The varied landscape of the district is comprised of the fens to the north, which are in certain parts below sea level, and gentle rolling landscape to the south.   We are a dynamic and progressive Local Authority, and we care about our natural and built environment, and our customers.

The following values and behaviours encompass the vision we have for our organisation and employees:
• Inspiring - We have genuine pride and passion for public service; doing the best we can for customers matters to us all.
• Collaborative - We achieve much more by working together, and this allows us to provide the best service for customers.
• Accountable - We take personal responsibility for our work and our decisions, and we deliver on our commitments to customers.
• Respectful - We respect people’s differences and are considerate to their needs.
• Enterprising - We use drive and energy to challenge the norm and adapt to changing circumstances. We are always ready for challenges and opportunities, and we embrace them.

We will invest in you and we will empower you, come and work for  Huntingdonshire District Council
