About us
This is Salford’s time. Salford is transforming into a modern global city and this is underpinned by our clear vision to create a better fairer Salford and provide the best quality of life for the people of the City.

Salford has the fastest growing economy in Greater Manchester with GVA up 22% contributing £5bn to the regional economy. And that figure is set to double, topping £10bn in the next decade. The city’s employment levels are set to increase by 16% in the next 20 years, which is on the back of our business base more than doubling since 2010. This is reflected by the sheer scale of development taking place including the expansion of MediaCityUK, which is set to double in size; Port Salford, the UK’s first tri-modal Port; new neighbourhoods including Greengate, Chapel street, New Bailey and Middlewood Locks as well as the site of the Royal Horticultural Society’s 5th garden.

About the role
We are looking to appoint a dynamic and experienced leader to provide high quality strategic direction for planning, acting as the Council’s Chief Planning Officer. You will lead spatial planning and environmental policy professionals who are responsible for the development and implementation of Salford’s Local Plan, supporting work on the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework, leading on the development of the City’s approach to dealing with the challenges of Climate Change and Carbon Management, and taking the senior lead on supporting the City’s responsibilities as lead local flood authority, all helping to guide future development within the city.

About you
You will have extensive knowledge and experience of working in policy development within Local Government, working with a wide range of stakeholders and will represent Salford in the development of planning work at a Greater Manchester level.

You will be technically qualified to degree level and be professionally qualified from RTPI or equivalent with extensive practical application of knowledge post professional qualification.

Learn, grow and develop as a leader
At Salford we’re committed to supporting our leaders to grow and from day one we’ll support you to succeed as a Salford leader through ongoing learning and development. This will include some core #LeadingSalford development and an immediate opportunity to gain a relevant leadership qualification.

About your benefits
You will have the opportunity to work and grow in a values based organisation where people are at the heart of everything we do. We promote a positive permission culture, empowering you to make a difference. Your work-life balance and wellbeing are important to us so you will have access to a range of benefits including flexible working, green travel, and pension and salary sacrifice schemes. In addition to this we offer a range of health and wellbeing options to suit your needs.

Closing date for applications: 16 October
Interviews will be held on the morning of the 29 October 2019 and all day on 30 October 2019
